2021 EASTER CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW
4 April 2021
JUDGE: MR BRAD SANTAS (NSW)
I would like to thank the committee for inviting me to judge your 30th Anniversary show, it was a great honour and I thoroughly enjoyed my day.
Thank you to all the exhibitors who travelled far and wide to show your beautiful dogs to me, I really appreciate your entry and your dogs were all presented immaculately. The sportsmanship shown between exhibitors and towards my decisions was also appreciated.
It’s a very hard job to critique dogs without using the same words or commenting on the same things! I don’t like to make negative comments about dogs, we all can have a bad day! SO I try and remain on the positive.
In general I would like to say that your dogs are beautiful, well presented and very well handled. I know COVID has played a huge part in our and our dog’s lives, especially the younger ones, but temperament is an issue and you need to work on that – there is nothing worse than a beautiful dog running around the ring with its tail down.
Your standard is very clear about these important proportions:
* The body length slightly exceeds the height at the withers.
* The depth of brisket is slightly less than half the height at the withers.
* The muzzle is slightly shorter than half the length of the head.I found a few dogs who were getting a little too long in body and the head proportions were a problem in several dogs, where the muzzle was longer than half the length of the head. Please watch this and try to improve where possible.
The General Appearance in your standard calls for:
He is a medium sized, elegant gun dog of noble appearance with a short russet gold coat. His rather light, dry, lean structure embodies the harmony of beauty and strength. My major winners today all had this appearance and the BIS bitch just oozed type for me.
I hope you take my critiques in the manner they are given.
Thank you again for showing your dogs and a big thank you to the club for a lovely judges gift, it is just beautiful.
