2023 EASTER CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW
9 April 2023
JUDGE: MS EDITHA NEWTON (UK)
I was surprised and honoured to be asked to judge HVs at you club show. I hadn’t realised that Nev had also judged the same show some 31 years previously. The coincidence of giving the same handler BIS just blew me away. Many thanks go to all those who made the appointment possible and for the hospitality I received.
Editha Newton
1st – Metropolis Duet Heir Apparent (Hanney)
Reserve Challenge Dog
Puppy in Show
Good head & crested neck into reasonable lay of shoulder. Enough return of upper arm with good strength of bone. Short in pastern. Good muscle tone throughout and well formed rear angles.
1st – Ch Ponsonby Mega Star (AI)(Imp NZ) (Hanney)
Found him to have good body mass, standing on good feet but he was a little straight throughout and rather wide between the elbows. He moved okay in profile but a little close on the rear to & fro.
1st – Metropolis Benchmark Finis (Hanney)
Good lay of shoulder, return satisfactory, good short pastern & hock. Well angulated rear quarters which he used to drive on the move.
1st – Graebrook Rebel Without A Cause (Graebrook Kennels)
Challenge Dog / Open In Show
BEST EXHIBIT IN SHOW
Just lovely to look at and go over. He flowed from the tip of his nose to the end of his tail. Super fore quarters with well laid shoulder & correct return of upper arm good strength of bone and short pastern. Well balanced rear which he used to advantage in profile movement.
2nd – Ch Elettars Insurgent (Richards/Johnson/Winch)
More width than I would like between the elbows but had decent return of upper arm. Good muscular loin with well held topline, tail set a little high.
3rd – Ch Pitswarren Magnum Opus Of Metropolis (Imp UK) (Hanney)
Balanced angles but straighter all through, pleasing head & coat colour, well set tail. Movement not typical.
1st – Sup Ch Hubertus The Real Deal (AI) (Pali/Blaik)
Veteran In Show
Correct in balance all through. Pleasing head & neck carriage, well muscled, standing on good feet. A lovely example of the breed.
1st – Elettars As Time Goes By (Johnson/Winch)
Good body mass standing on correct feet, good length of rib & loin, well angulated at rear. Tail is quite gay on movement.
2nd – Cals My Fair Lady (Kain)
Smaller in stature than winner but is nicely balanced in angles. Just a little wide between the elbows and I was not able to fully assess her.
1st – Ch Hubertus Jewel Of A Deal (Pali)
Junior in Show
Quite a masculine bitch but well balanced with good depth of chest, level topline, good set to tail, standing on good feet with correct bone.
1st – Ch Graebrook Fancy Pants (Graebrook Kennels)
Intermediate in Show
Very elegant when moving in profile even if the tail carriage is a little high. Good overall picture when free standing with nicely balanced angles both fore & aft.
2nd – Ch Metropolis Yen Seraphina (Hanney)
Heavier all through than winner. She has a very deep chest, prominent sternum and correct balance to rear angles. Again tail carriage when moving is very high.
1st – Ch Hanafor Mercury Rising TD (Kerrison)
Australian Bred In Show
Pleasing head & neck into good shoulder placement, well muscled, balanced rear angles which she used to produce sound parallel hind movement.
2nd – Ch Metropolis Hosanna in Xcelsis (Hanney)
Lacks a little femininity in the head for me and has rather too much skirt. Pleasing rear angles & well set tail.
1st – Ch Yzabeau Quantum Quest (Kerrison)
Reserve Challenge Bitch / Bred By Exhibitor In Show
Very pleasing throughout with correct angulation both fore & aft. Good prominent sternum and lovely rib, loin combination. Handler has a tendency to stack with a sloping topline.
1st – Ch Graebrook All About Soul (Graebrook Kennels)
Challenge Bitch
RUNNER-UP BEST EXHIBIT IN SHOW
Standing four square and with correct body proportions she appealed to my eye. Lovely head & eye, good crest to neck, well laid shoulder, good strength of bone, well held top & underline. Moved with grace & elegance.
2nd – Ch Hubertus Star Is Born (Pali/Blaik)
Lovely head & expression, strong neck into shoulder. Good length & return of upper arm, straight front legs. She has enough angulation through rear quarters but failed to use them when moving.
